Dai Gum Loong: A new dragon for Bendigo appeal

The community of Bendigo and visitors to the Easter Festival have wholeheartedly embraced the Chinese participation in the Easter festivities since the 1870s.

The appearance of an Imperial Dragon at the Bendigo Easter Festival is the highlight of Australia’s oldest continuous community festival. Easter in Bendigo would not be the same without an Imperial Dragon.

It is estimated that the project to bring a new dragon and its attendant processional regalia to Bendigo will cost in the vicinity of $500,000.

The Preservation Needs Assessment conducted on our famous existing dragon, Sun Loong, has been completed and the cost of restoration estimated at $250,000. The time required to properly restore and conserve Sun Loong would mean his absence from the Easter Gala Parade for at least two years.

A refurbishment of Sun Loong is not an option, so we urgently need your donation to guarantee continuity of the Chinese contribution to Bendigo’s annual Easter Fair.

Donations over $2.00 are tax deductible
