Banyule Community Health have partnered with the East Ivanhoe and Heidelberg Community Bank® branches and the Bendigo Bank branch network to support students education at Parkville College (and affiliated sites).
Parkville College was established in Victoria’s youth detention centres in 2012 to provide kids in juvenile detention with an education program.
Most of the kids have had no family support, have suffered abuse, struggled to stay in school and have experienced limited educational opportunities.
Parkville College supports them with schooling seven days a week from 9am until 5pm - with great teaching staff and small classes pitched at their level. This provides a unique opportunity to connect with them when they are well fed, free of drugs and alcohol, regular sleep and time on their hands.
Funds raised through this appeal will provide kids in the Juvenile Justice system with an opportunity to participate in the youth philanthropy program – Youth Foundation.
The program provides a facilitator to work with the students in custody one day per week to seek their ideas for initiatives that would make their communities a better place to live in. The process empowers these young people to understand that their voices are important, their ideas valued and it gives them the satisfaction of achieving something meaningful.
All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
