Families, businesses and farmers are counting the cost of devastating floods. Initially declared a ‘one-in-a-100’ year event, the floods are expected to be upgraded to a ‘one-in-a-500’ year event.
In a 13 day period, Townsville Airport received 1421.4 millimetres of rain which makes it the community’s wettest week, fortnight and start to a year on record.
The community sustained substantial damage with as many as 22,000 homes directly impacted, and with drought-stricken graziers estimated to have lost a staggering 500,000 head of cattle.
We’re partnering with the Salvation Army Disaster Relief Fund, which has people on the ground helping those in need.
We’re proud to be a collection point for the great work the Salvation Army is doing in and around North Queensland.
